Pilates in 2026: what the trends mean in the session

Smaller groups, AI tools, more varied clients and specialized studios: what the 2026 Pilates trends mean for the instructor choosing the next exercise.

From the instructor's side

De Pilates Store's look at Pilates in 2026 lists the trends studios are following: hybrid training, AI and technology, wellness, smaller groups, inclusivity, sustainability, specialization and community. Most are studio decisions. A few change what happens between you and the client on the reformer or the mat, and those are the ones worth thinking through.

Smaller groups mean more adapting per class

Groups of six to eight give each client more attention, and they expect it. The same exercise often needs two or three versions in one class. Our guide “Adapting one Pilates exercise for different clients in a small-group class” covers how to keep one intent and hand out the versions without stopping the class.

AI beside the instructor, not in place of them

AI is moving into studios, and the instructors who use it keep their own judgment at the center. The useful question isn't whether to use AI but which part of the job to give it. See “Using an AI assistant as a Pilates instructor, without handing it the session”.

More varied clients

Studios are welcoming more clients of different ages, bodies and abilities, and more adjustable equipment such as raised reformers. That makes options matter: a different position, a different spring, a smaller range. “Offering reformer options to older Pilates clients” goes through the reformer side.

Specialization raises the value of your notes

Studios and instructors are specializing in rehabilitation, pre- and postnatal work or athletes. The more specific your clients, the more your own rules for them matter, and the more it pays to write them down well. “Writing Pilates client notes you can actually use” is a good place to start.

What doesn't change

Whatever the studio looks like, the session still comes down to the next exercise for the client in front of you. Syllene is built for that moment: ask about one client, get up to three options from your own library first, each with why it suits them and what to watch for, and decide for yourself.
